Michael Jackson's Mother Gets Temporary Guardianship Of Kids

Katherine Jackson appointed legal guardian of Prince, Paris and Prince Michael II.
Among the many unresolved issues that have emerged since Michael Jackson's death on Thursday is what will become of his three children, Prince, 12; Paris, 11; and Prince Michael II, 7. The children were under the full custody of their father, and since his death, they have been staying with their grandparents, Katherine and Joseph Jackson, at the couple's Encino, California, estate.

A short time later, The Associated Press reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved her request for temporary guardianship of the children but did not grant her authority to serve as guardian of the children's estate.

Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos

In making the case for guardianship, the petition filed on Monday reportedly states that the children have "no relationship with their biological mother" and that they are currently in the care of Katherine, with whom they have a "long-established relationship." Debbie Rowe, the mother of the two elder children, was briefly married to Jackson but gave up her custody rights after she and Jackson divorced in 1999, and the petition lists her whereabouts as "unknown." The identity of the mother of Jackson's youngest child, commonly referred to as "Blanket," has never been publicly revealed, and on the petition, the box next to mother is checked as "none."

The petition says that the value of Jackson's assets is not known yet and does not mention if he left a will, but it states that Katherine would be the best guardian for the children because they are "currently residing with paternal grandmother. They have a long-established relationship with paternal grandmother and are comfortable in her care." According to the petition, it is "not known at this time" if Rowe agrees with the action. A hearing to determine whether Katherine will be the children's permanent guardian is set for August 3.

UsMagazine.com reported that Katherine Jackson was spotted at a Los Angeles Target store over the weekend, stocking up on toys, sleeping bags and other supplies, and an attorney for the family said they had not yet heard from Rowe in the wake of Jackson's death. Her former attorney told the magazine last week that she was "inconsolable" about the death of her ex-husband.

Michael Jackson's Doctor -- Free to Go

Dr. Conrad Murray, the personal physician to Michael Jackson, is free to travel if he wants to -- but he plans on staying in town "out of the goodness of his heart."

A rep for Murray's lawyer tells TMZ there is "no need for further questioning" of Murray, but says the doctor "wants to help out as much as possible."

Murray was interviewed by LAPD yesterday for three hours. He is not considered a suspect.

Michael Jackson's Demerol Tonic

Michael Jackson had a habit of getting Demerol injections -- he even had a special name for them.

We're told Jackson called it "health tonic." He would have a doctor inject him because, we're told, he didn't like needles.

Our sources have told us Jackson was injected with Demerol at 11:30 AM the day he died. Shortly thereafter Jackson went into cardiac arrest.

You'll recall, Jackson also had a name for wine -- Jesus juice.

Michael's Estate May Turn Around

It's the ultimate irony -- Michael Jackson's death could make his struggling estate flush with cash.

It's simple math. Jackson spent millions of dollars every year. He was paying $100,000 a month just for renting the Holmby Hills house.

We're told the bottom line could get significantly better and quickly.

That brings up an obvious point -- with significant child support on the line, there's even more of an incentive for Debbie Rowe to fight for custody. If she does, there will be an epic fight between Rowe and Katherine Jackson.

Michael Jackson's Body Released

Michael Jackson's body was taken to an undisclosed mortuary tonight.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office released Jackson's body to his family late Friday night.

No funeral arrangements have been announced.

Cops Meet with Jackson Family

We've learned at least 5 detectives from LAPD robbery/homicide met with members of Michael Jackson's family at Michael's Holmby Hills home.

Sources tell us both the cops and family had requested the meeting. The family wanted to know about "the circumstances surrounding Michael's death." The cops wanted information that could help them determine what killed Michael. We're told Katherine, Joe and several brothers were present.

The meeting is over -- one of the cops just told us he believes "no crime" was committed inside Michael's

Michael Jackson's Doc Quit Medical Practice

We just got a letter that Michael Jackson's doctor sent to his patients 11 days ago, announcing that he will be indefinitely leaving his medical practice.
Dr. Conrad Murray sent the note on his letterhead from his medical practice in Las Vegas. He says, "I am deeply saddened to leave you at this point, but please know my absence is not permanent." He continues, "In my absence, I will continue to manage the practice, and be involved as much as possible but from a distance."

The letter says "My absence is not permanent."

We're told AEG -- the company that was putting on the London concerts -- put Dr. Murray on the payroll.

Michael Jackson's Doctor

We've obtained this photo of Jackson's live-in doctor -- who unsuccessfully performed CPR on the King of Pop before the ambulance showed up.

UPDATE: LAPD just announced they still have not spoken to the elusive doctor. Also, the reason they towed Murray's car from MJ's house last night is because "it might contain evidence."

michael jackson death

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the "King of Pop" who once moonwalked above the music world, died Thursday as he prepared for a comeback bid to vanquish nightmare years of sexual scandal and financial calamity. He was 50.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center after being stricken at his rented home in Holmby Hills. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his home for nearly three-quarters of an hour, then rushed him to the hospital, where doctors continued to work on him.

"It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known," his brother Jermaine said. Police said they were investigating, standard procedure in high-profile cases.

Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

His 1982 album "Thriller" — which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

At the time of his death, Jackson was rehearsing hard for what was to be his greatest comeback: He was scheduled for an unprecedented 50 shows at a London arena, with the first set for July 13.

As word of his death spread, MTV switched its programming to play videos from Jackson's heyday. Radio stations began playing marathons of his hits. Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital. In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone.

"No joke. King of Pop is no more. Wow," Michael Harris, 36, of New York City, read from a text message a friend had sent him. "It's like when Kennedy was assassinated. I will always remember being in Times Square when Michael Jackson died."

The public first knew him as a boy in the late 1960s, when he was the precocious, spinning lead singer of the Jackson 5, the singing group he formed with his four older brothers out of Gary, Ind. Among their No. 1 hits were "I Want You Back," "ABC" and "I'll Be There."

He was perhaps the most exciting performer of his generation, known for his backward-gliding moonwalk, his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and his high-pitched singing, punctuated with squeals and titters. His single sequined glove, tight, military-style jacket and aviator sunglasses were trademarks, as was his ever-changing, surgically altered appearance.

"For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words," said Quincy Jones, who produced "Thriller." "He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Jackson ranked alongside Elvis Presley and the Beatles as the biggest pop sensations of all time. He united two of music's biggest names when he was briefly married to Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie, and Jackson's death immediately evoked comparisons to that of Presley himself, who died at age 42 in 1977.

As years went by, Jackson became an increasingly freakish figure — a middle-aged man-child weirdly out of touch with grown-up life. His skin became lighter, his nose narrower, and he spoke in a breathy, girlish voice. He often wore a germ mask while traveling, kept a pet chimpanzee named Bubbles as one of his closest companions, and surrounded himself with children at his Neverland ranch, a storybook playland filled with toys, rides and animals. The tabloids dubbed him "Wacko Jacko."

"It seemed to me that his internal essence was at war with the norms of the world. It's as if he was trying to defy gravity," said Michael Levine, a Hollywood publicist who represented Jackson in the early 1990s. He called Jackson a "disciple of P.T. Barnum" and said the star appeared fragile at the time but was "much more cunning and shrewd about the industry than anyone knew."

Jackson caused a furor in 2002 when he playfully dangled his infant son, Prince Michael II, over a hotel balcony in Berlin while a throng of fans watched from below.

In 2005, he was cleared of charges he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. He had been accused of plying the boy with alcohol and groping him, and of engaging in strange and inappropriate behavior with other children.

The case followed years of rumors about Jackson and young boys. In a TV documentary, he acknowledged sharing his bed with children, a practice he described as sweet and not at all sexual.

Despite the acquittal, the lurid allegations that came out in court took a fearsome toll on his career and image, and he fell into serious financial trouble.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born Aug. 29, 1958, in Gary. He was 4 years old when he began singing with his brothers — Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and Tito — in the Jackson 5. After his early success with bubblegum soul, he struck out on his own, generating innovative, explosive, unstoppable music.

The album "Thriller" alone mixed the dark, serpentine bass and drums and synthesizer approach of "Billie Jean," the grinding Eddie Van Halen solo on "Beat It," and the hiccups and falsettos on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'."

The peak may have come in 1983, when Motown celebrated its 25th anniversary with an all-star televised concert and Jackson moonwalked off with the show, joining his brothers for a medley of old hits and then leaving them behind with a pointing, crouching, high-kicking, splay-footed, crotch-grabbing run through "Billie Jean."

The audience stood and roared. Jackson raised his fist.

By then he had cemented his place in pop culture. He got the plum Scarecrow role in the 1978 movie musical "The Wiz," a pop-R&B version of "The Wizard of Oz," that starred Diana Ross as Dorothy.

During production of a 1984 Pepsi commercial, Jackson's scalp sustains burns when an explosion sets his hair on fire.

He had strong follow-up albums with 1987's "Bad" and 1991's "Dangerous," but his career began to collapse in 1993 after he was accused of molesting a boy who often stayed at his home. The singer denied any wrongdoing, reached a settlement with the boy's family, reported to be $20 million, and criminal charges were never filed.

Jackson's expressed anger over the allegations on the 1995 album "HIStory," which sold more than 2.4 million copies, but by then, the popularity of Jackson's music was clearly waning, even as public fascination with his increasingly erratic behavior was growing.

Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley in 1994, and they divorced in 1996. Later that year, Jackson married Deborah Rowe, a former nurse for his dermatologist. They had two children together: Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., known as Prince Michael, now 12; and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11. Rowe filed for divorce in 1999.

Jackson also had a third child, Prince Michael II. Now 7, Jackson said the boy nicknamed Blanket as a baby was his biological child born from a surrogate mother.

Cardiac arrest is an abnormal heart rhythm that stops the heart from pumping blood to the body. It can occur after a heart attack or be caused by other heart problems.

Billboard magazine editorial director Bill Werde said Jackson's star power was unmatched. "The world just lost the biggest pop star in history, no matter how you cut it," Werde said. "He's literally the king of pop."

Jackson's 13 No. 1 one hits on the Billboard charts put him behind only Presley, the Beatles and Mariah Carey, Werde said.

"He was on the eve of potentially redeeming his career a little bit," he said. "People might have started to think of him again in a different light."

More Miley Cyrus Picture Controversey

Miley Cyrus, 16, is at the center of another controversy because of photos posted on director Adam Shankman’s yFrog page. In one pic, Miley is seen pressed up against Shankman in an inappropriate way.

Shankman has responded to the pictures, saying: “Miley is a sweet angel who works tirelessly and endlessly, and is allowed to have fun in the make up room! Seriously! Lighten up or no more behind the scenes pics! She’s like my angel little sister.”

Aniston's relationships like a movie

Concluding her involvement with "He's Just Not That Into You" and John Mayer at roughly the same time, Jennifer Aniston has realized that her films provide eerie chapter titles to her notoriously complicated love life.

The actress on Friday received the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film at the Women in Film Awards in Culver City, Calif.

"You have increased the visibility in film, and we thank you for that," host Chelsea Handler said. "You've recently decreased the visibility of John Mayer, so we thank you for that."

Aniston laughed, then went along with the joke, Us Weekly says.

"I have a strange parallel with movies I was doing and my life off screen. First, it was 'The Good Girl' which evolved into 'Rumor Has It,' followed by 'Derailed,' " she said, perhaps referring to her doomed marriage with Brad Pitt.

"Then there was 'The Breakup,' " she continued, "followed by the lighter side, 'Friends With Money.'

"If anyone has a movie called 'Everlasting Love With an Adult Stable Man,' that would be great!" Aniston said. "I'm at table six, and my agents are at table 12."

Aniston's next projects include insemination comedy "The Baster," "Love Happens" and "Bounty Hunter."

Michael Jackson Mystery Dr. Visits

So for the last few months we've been catching Michael Jackson leaving a medical building in Beverly Hills. Now we know who Jackson has been seeing.

Jackson has been going to the office of Dr. Arnie Klein -- dermatologist to the stars -- and he's been going there several times a week lately. Klein and M.J. have a long history together. Klein has treated Jackson's vitiligo -- a pigmentation disorder.

In 1993, when Jackson was under criminal investigation the first time for alleged child molestation, cops searched Klein's office and seized medical records after news reports suggested Klein may have bleached Jackson's genitals so Jacko's accuser wouldn't be able to ID the singer's private parts. The claim was never proven.

By the way, in the 90's Klein had a nurse by the name of Debbie Rowe. She married Jacko and had two of his kids via artificial insemination. They later divorced.

Megan Fox Gives Germany What They Wanted

A lot of leg. With a slit in her dress almost up to her waist, a peak-a-boo cut out at the waist in her dress and no bra, Megan Fox put on a little show at the German premiere of Transformers. The dress showed off her most prominent tattoos. Megan is said to be thinking about getting a tattoo sleeve, which her mother Darlene is begging Megan to reconsider - fearing the body art will put off movie bosses and jeopardize her career.

Fox, along with Shia LaBeouf (whom she seems to enjoy hanging on to) and director Michael Bay wowed the crowd in Berlin.

Paris' Ex Spreading Lies!

You may have read that Paris Hilton went crawling back into the arms of her douchebag ex-boyfriend, Doug Reinhardt, at 4 AM last night.

Well, don't believe it. That moment of weakness never happened, the heiress herself tells us.

In an exclusive statement, Paris reveals exclusively to PerezHilton.com, "Obviously, someone is trying to spin something. I was in bed, by myself, last night by 2:30 AM. I had to wake up early today [Friday] to work and I'm going to be on Conan O'Brien's show this evening. I think it's really immature that people will make up stories like this."

And, by "people" she means Doug, we're sure.

We're told Paris had a going away party at her house Thursday night for friends and family, before she heads to Dubai to film a local version there of her BFF show.

"Doug was frantically calling and texting her," a Hilton insider tells us. "She didn't pick up the phone."

Several media sources tell us that Reinhardt has been contacting them personally, trying to plant stories about Hilton and their relationship.

Obviously somebody wants to extend his 15 seconds of fame, which already expired earlier this week!

Lindsay!!!! BABY!!!!

Ohhhhhh I’ve found you!!!! Oh it feels so good to see you again, sweetheart. I can feel my day getting better already. I MISS YOU SO MUCH WHEN YOU’RE GONE. I have such an unhealthy relationship with you, Lindsers. Kind of like the relationship you have with everything.

I have located Lindsay shopping at Chloe in Paris — she’s ostensibly in Europe because Samantha’s DJing in London right now. They are sooooo back on. We have pics of Samantha too. We have a lot of new pics.

Megan Fox is a Prostitute

At this point, other than trying to get her half naked on their cover, I'm not sure why magazines want to interview Megan Fox. Because, well, chances are good that she wont make it five minutes without saying something really stupid. Congrats, British GQ! Showbiz Spy reports:

“When you think about it, we actors are kind of prostitutes,” Fox tells the July issue of British GQ. “We get paid to feign attraction and love. Other people are paying to watch us kissing someone, touching someone, doing things people in a normal monogamous relationship would never do with anyone who’s not their partner. It’s really kind of gross. “I have this sort of promiscuous image. People assume I’m really overtly sexually aggressive and that I’m this wild child. And I’m not like that at all. “I would rather have an image that is wild and promiscuous than to go out of my way to be proper all the time.“There are some guys who think I’m going to be this little cupcake who’s going to bat my eyes and be like a receptacle for them. I shut them down immediately.”

Ugh. Megan, I love you, I do, but baby, pretty please, shut the hell up. You want to know why people think you're "overtly sexually aggressive"? Let's see, hmm, maybe this? Or this? No wait, maybe this. Look, you can't throw me an idea then say I have the wrong idea. Magazines aren't claiming you're Andrei Chikatilo or Jack The Ripper, you're saying this stuff. I think you just need to take a long look in the mirror and think about what image you want to portray. Now turn around. Then squeeze your nipples for me. Oooh yeah, baby. You like that?

Which Star Accidentally Slipped a Nipple?

This singer has never been shy, but we doubt she meant to give paparazzi an eyeful on the set of her new music video.

The cheeky British party gal showed more than just her side cleavage while taking a smoke break in London.

Of course, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen her topless. She's been snapped sunbathing sans bikini bra before.

Think you know who's suffering from overexposure? Find out if you're right...

It's Lily Allen...although doesn't she look like Katy Perry here?

DJ AM Looking to Spin Life Story

DJ AM plans to tell all.

The celebrity DJ has battled substance abuse, used gastric bypass surgery to treat obesity, dated a slew of Hollywood starlets and, of course, most recently fought for his life after that tragic plane crash.

It's no wonder he's planning on releasing his memoirs some day...

"I will definitely be writing a book," AM told us last night at Activision's DJ Hero launch at the Wiltern Theatre in L.A. "I'll work on it when I see the ending in sight. That may be a long time from now, but it will happen."

AM was on hand last night with best bud Travis Barker to open for an invite-only concert by Jay-Z and Eminem.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Usher, lovebirds Ryan Phillippe and gal-pal Abbie Cornish, Matthew McConaughey and Taraji P. Henson were among the boldfaced names hanging in the VIP area.

Even though Kim Kardashian is mocked in Eminem's new music, that didn't stop the E! reality star from having a good time. Also appearing to have a very good time? Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. A wobbly Ms. Ashlee was spotted leaving the VIP area with drink in hand and on the arms of a friend and a bodyguard.

It wasn't until midnight that Jay-Z finally hit the stage, performing snippets of "99 Bottles," "Swagger Like Us," and "Dirt Off Your Shoulder," among others.

Eminem joined him on stage for their 2001 collaboration, "Renegade." Slim Shady then performed a solo set of five songs
